There are currently a total of 4,730 public charging stations in Germany, including 530 high-speed charging stations. They offer 10,700 public charging points. Businesses, utility companies and the public sector have recognized the importance of comprehensive infrastructure. Last November, the joint venture IONITY, composed of leading automobile manufacturers, announced plans for a Europe-wide charging network. Around 400 high-speed charging stations are to be installed along Europe’s major transport routes by 2020. On top of that, the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) is adding high-speed charging stations and parking spaces for electric vehicles to the approximately 400 rest stops along federal highways which are managed by the private company Autobahn Tank & Rast GmbH. And the European Commission has approved the 300 million euro incentive program set up by the BMVI. The aim is to develop a comprehensive charging infrastructure with 15,000 charging stations across Germany.

Well-known suppliers and representatives of energy supply companies aren’t the only source of inspiration to be found at Power2Drive Europe – start-up founders will also be providing fresh momentum. With their innovative business models, they are welcome partners for established enterprises and energy supply companies. In innovative communities and cities, supply and mobility are digitally interconnected in many areas. With the development of e-mobility and new car sharing options in particular, municipal providers have the opportunity to greatly expand their offerings.
E-mobility only makes ecological and economic sense if it is fueled by renewable sources of energy. In Germany, for example, the Federal Environmental Agency has said that transportation must be greenhouse gas-neutral by 2050 if the country wants to achieve its climate goals. The environmental agency has also calculated that e-mobility generates lower additional economic costs for the energy transition in the transport sector than power-to-liquid, power-to-methane and power-to-hydrogen.
At the Power2Drive Forum, experts will be sharing their knowledge on combining renewable energies and electric vehicles, and the significance of electric cars for the energy mix and transport of the future. The spotlight will be on brand new vehicle concepts, innovative charging solutions and current business models for sustainable e-mobility.
