VW attacks the electricity market with group subsidiary Elli

January 21, 2019: For a long time, car makers like Volkswagen have neglected the issue of electromobility. But now the Wolfsburg-based company is taking a big step forward - and has founded its own green electricity subsidiary. The new company Elli (short for Electric Life) is not only intended to provide the right charging infrastructure for launching the manufacturer's e-car initiative, but also to become an alternative to RWE, Eon and Co. "Market opportunities are being created here," explains Elli CEO Thorsten Nicklass. And that's exactly what we want to use.
From the beginning of February, anyone, whether VW customer or not, can buy green electricity from Elli. To this end, a portfolio of intelligent electricity tariffs, wall charging stations and charging stations as well as an IT-based energy management system is to be gradually established during the course of the year.
