Alfen and Allego collaborate to deliver intelligent EV charging stations to the London Borough of Newham. This project is part of the Go Ultra Low City Scheme (GULCS), a joint project between Transport for London (TfL), Greater London Authority (GLA) and boroughs. The declared goal is to install over 1,500 publicly accessible EV charging points in London by the end of 2020. The project has already been piloted in Bristol, the first UK city to introduce Alfen chargers as part of GULCS.
Allego will be responsible for the installation and operation of the charging stations. Alfen is pleased to have been selected as a partner to work on the ambitious London project and will contribute its intelligent EV charging stations.
As a first step, Allego will operate 40 Alfen intelligent twin-socket chargers. The chargers, designed for the special conditions in the busy city, will deliver 22 kW of power and will allow cars and vans to be charged at up to 100 miles per hour. These chargers will also offer special flexibility and be capable of being implemented in intelligent charging nodes as the grid and thus the requirements grow.
Paz Sharma, Allego Managing Director UK and Ireland said: “We are proud to be working with a trusted partner like Alfen to provide reliable and smart charging solutions to cities like London. Together we deliver charging facilities that can be used by all electric cars and every EV driver, providing a seamless charging experience.”
